CMITO aims qualification at first line managers

CMITO has introduced a qualification designed to develop the skills of team leaders: the National Certificate in First Line Management (Level 3).

Now available, this qualification includes essential communication, leadership and problem solving skills and knowledge for people working as, or training to be team leaders, supervisors or charge hands. John Cudby, general manager CMITO, urges businesses to take advantage of this new staff development tool. He says, “This qualification provides a stepping stone for people working in first line management who may have had little or no formal training. It provides core skills that will help your staff to become more effective and confident in their roles.”

He adds that it contains knowledge relevant to any staff responsible for managing people, resources and/or workplace operations. He says that staff undertaking the qualification will learn how to better monitor team performance; create and maintain a positive team culture; manage workplace conflict; and use problem solving techniques to resolve workplace issues.
He says, “Businesses can use the qualification as a tool to formalise existing skills or to develop people they have identified as having future leadership potential. It also has use as an entry point into further training, including CMITO’s Diploma in Print Management, competitive manufacturing qualifications or other business management training.”

CMITO has partnered with the Open Polytechnic to provide the qualification. The Open Polytechnic will supply training material and provide learner support and assessment. CMITO will register learners, provide subsidised fees and send out the National Certificate upon completion.

Taking eight months to complete, the National Certificate in First Line Management (Level 3) costs $300 + GST. Cudby concludes, “To sign on, the learner and employer will need to complete CMITO’s Training Agreement form. Contact CMITO on , email or talk to your training advisor.”
