Gallus and QuadTech team up for colour control

Chasing faster makeready and top notch print quality, QuadTech will provide closed-loop colour control and colour measurement systems for the Gallus offset, flexo and gravure presses.

QuadTech says its colour control systems make it easier to achieve consistent repeatability from run to run and site to site, with a typical ROI of less than two years.

Thomas Weber, supplier relationship management with Gallus, says, “We recognised the opportunity to partner with QuadTech to provide our customers with state-of-the-art spectral colour measurement and colour control systems.”

He says the automation will “drive further reduction in make-readies and savings in valuable substrate waste.”

Gallus is now owned 100 per cent owned by Heidelberg.

The offset presses will receive QuadTech’s Colour Control System with SpectralCam, which adjusts ink keys to maintain colour targets on-the-fly and at full press speeds.

Flexo and gravure are treated to the QuadTeach Colour Measurement System with SpectralCam, for inline monitoring of packaging substrates including translucent, transparent and reflective films. Operators are alerted to colour variations in real time.

Quadtech says the ability to control colour on tricky substrates like films has been a significant objective, which it is tackling by using its web stabiliser to overcome issues like web movement and substrate corrugation.

The web stabiliser measures substrates over a BCRA ceramic tile, for a constant known backing, and momentarily stabilises a small area with a high pressure vacuum. This, it says, enables colour measurement on thin, transparent and translucent films used for self-adhesive labels, monofoil labels, wet-glue and laminates.

Stephan Doppelhammer, market manager for packaging with QuadTech, says, “Gallus and QuadTech are aligned in the drive to create solutions that maximise customer benefits and profitability.

“We are delighted to offer a faster way for Gallus customers to achieve and maintain perfect colour, for guaranteed high-quality output, optimal performance, cost savings and fast ROI.”

QuadTech will showcase the SpectralCam systems at the Gallus Innovation Days in September, in St Gallen, Switzerland.
