The Pentawards Packaging Concepts 2014 competition is about to open for entries, with designers and students, freelancers and companies invited to submit their best conceptual work.
Organisers say it is not necessary to supply prototypes but only rendered images of the packaging concepts, saying, “It does not matter if they are not feasible because of the current state of technology – sooner or later they will be. The important thing is to think about the future.
“We believe that creative ideas move the world; but also that packaging must be constantly reinvented and provide intelligent solutions in order to improve our life and to show more respect for our planet.”
Original concepts that have not yet been launched in the market can be submitted across six categories – beverages, food, body, other markets, luxury and ecological concepts. Entries will be judged according to Creativity, Innovation and Branding by a panel of 13 industry experts.
The competition will be open for online registration on February 3, closing on February 21. An international jury will deliberate from June 1 to 30, and winners will be announced at a ceremony in Tokyo on Thursday October 9.
Last year’s gold winners include cute kids dressed as vegetables gracing Sprout packaging by the UK’s Springetts Brand Design Consultants and giant moustaches atop bottles of ‘The Barbers Gentlemen’s Care’ by German group Soerentibor.
The Pentawards Classic 2014 competition, for existing packaging already available on the market, will open for entries on April 14 and close on May 23.
