Forward-thinkers flock to Konica Minolta seminar

More than 200 printers and industry reps descended on Konica Minolta in Sydney for a day of presentations, networking, and out-of-the-box ideas.

Personalisation, cloud computing and audience analytics were the buzzwords of the day, with nine presenters and a keynote speaker sharing their insights into technologies and key trends that may influence the future of print and doing business in Australia.

Opening the event David Cooke, managing director of Konica Minolta Australia, says, “Today is our attempt to say that we really do care about our relationship with our customers and suppliers. We wanted to provide you with a forum whereby we could impart knowledge that we felt would be valuable for your businesses, to help you grow and stay up to date.

“We could sit back and say, our parent company makes fantastic technology, and leave it at that. But it is up to us to do something more than simply supply that hardware, and today is part of that.”

General manager of production printing David Procter rolled up his sleeves to man the lunchtime barbeque, which was held between the two sessions. Procter says the day was born through a desire to help print business owners take advantage of the new digital era and new opportunities that are arising.

Keynote speaker Tom Skotidas, director of B2B social media marketing agency Skotidas, kicked off the afternoon session with insights into effectively using your LinkedIn profile to network and generate sales.

Anthony Parnemann, manager of EFI in South-East Asia, discussed the benefits of web to print systems and driving your customers towards making up-front payments via ecommerce, while an Investec team offered finance advice for the post-GFC world.

The possibilities of variable data in improving target audience response were outlined by Henryk Kraszewski from Objectif Lune. Anthony Harvey, director of strategic business development at Kodak Australasia, explored the measurable advantages of driving traffic from print to web and streamlining your business through workflow solutions.

Owen Clark, cloud services specialist with Symantec, discussed the benefits of shifting parts of your business to a secure cloud, while Renée Lance, solutions consultant at Adobe, introduced Adobe’s new Creative Cloud service providing access to Adobe tools and automatic updates.

BJ Ball’s Rob Brussolo outlined its vendor-managed paper inventory system which promises to reduce printers’ paper stock overheads, Anitech looked at the benefits of wide format toner-based printers over inkjet, and Rayne Simpson from Morgana demonstrated finishing solutions for digital printers struggling with curl, static and cracking issues.

Glen Marsh, owner of Sydney printer Marsh Media, says, “It is good to see Konica Minolta host these events. Even though I have come across most of the concepts through my rapidly growing digital printing and signage business, it was reinforcing to see them covered by industry professionals. I really enjoyed the sessions.”
