The company has provided offset services to a broad base of clients in Melbourne and the Victorian Goldfields for the past thirty years, and Mick Mulqueen, director, admits to having been sceptical about digital printing in the past, but says, “Digital printing has come a long way in the last five years in terms of quality and the range of stocks you can now use. We can see that a lot of the short-run offset work that we have been producing can be done more efficiently on the digital press.
“Our clients have been asking us when we are going to have a digital offering for short run work. We decided that we needed to make a move into digital before we started to lose market share, and we are now keen to get the machine in and running as we already have work lined up.
“The Linoprint press will add another string to our bow and give us a new service to offer our clients. It will give us the potential to increase productivity and also drive sales. For us it was a bit of a no-brainer.”
Mulqueen adds that the Linoprint has a user-friendly interface and stock library which will allow the company to more easily train up new staff in operating the press, and the system has integrated directly into Mulqueen’s existing workflow, without additional costs.
Heidelberg have arranged for Ricoh’s Bendigo dealer Evolution Copy Print Solutions to provide local service and support, which the regional printer says was an important factor in its decision.
He tells Australian Printer, “For most of the machines support has to come out of Melbourne. That can be quite time consuming, so to buy a machine that we know comes with local service and backup, that makes a lot of difference.”
The family-owned company has 13 staff including three brothers of the Mulqueen family.
