Port Printing buys Australia’s first Scodix 3D embellisher

Perth-based trade printer Port Printing Works is installing a Scodix digital embellishing system to set itself apart in the competitive business card stakes.

Tom Wagenaar, director at Port Printing Works, says he hopes to use the three-dimensional gloss UV capabilities of the Scodix S74 Pro embellisher – the first to be installed in Australia – to add value for the company’s trade clients.

He tells Australian Printer, “It is the only product out there in Australia that can apply a three-dimensional gloss UV. Any existing method of applying spot UV is not three-dimensional, it is just a flat surface, but this has a raised surface.

“We produce an enormous amount of business cards, and it is well-suited to applying spot UV to business cards, which we gang up. Being a wholesale printer, it makes sense. We specialise in a pretty broad range of products, and while this particular machine is not suited to everything it is suited to business cards, presentation folders, book covers, anything that needs to stand out from the crowd.

“We are the only people in Australia at present with this technology, so it sets us apart. It can be difficult to find a point of difference, but this product gives us that in the area of digital embellishment.”

With around 30 staff at its O’Connor site in Perth, Port Printing Works provides wholesale digital and offset services to the Australasian market.
