Dr Joseph Schneider, the inventor of MAN Roland’s radical plateless high volume DICOweb digital printing solution, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by Moscow State University for Printing. This honorary doctorate is being awarded in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the development of important structural innovations for the printing industry.
Through his co-operation with the university, Dr. Josef Schneider is playing a major role in the reconstruction of the printing industry in Russia. This started with a lecture about MAN Roland’s DICO technologies that the university invited Dr. Schneider to hold on the day the Board of Trustees met.

Dr. (Physics) Josef Schneider joined MAN Roland in 1988 and has been head of the Digital Printing Systems Business Unit since 1993. Prior to this he managed the department of Innovation Research at the Deutsche Forschungsgesellschaft für Druck und Reproduktionstechnik (FOGRA).

Furthermore the creator of the DICOweb has also lectured on innovation technology as a guest professor at the Wuppertal Polytechnic College and also at the Institute for Printing Technology and Planning, which is affiliated with the Academy of Arts in Berlin.

Dr Schneider is recognised as probably the leading intellectual in the worldwide printing industry, attending his lectures or simply having a conversation with him is a spellbinding experience, as he effortlessly moves from science to the arts to history to philosophy to sociology to printing technology and back again.
