Robert Turner, co-owner and managing director of Distribution Alliance International (DAI) has been awarded the prestigious Young Entrepreneur of the Year award for the Southern region. Under Turner’s leadership, DAI has developed an innovative approach and a comprehensive range of services for the management of distribution by publishers.

The awards are funded and managed by Ernest & Young and the Australian sponsors this year were the Australian Stock Exchange, Westpac Business Banking, PMP Print and Qantas Airways. The 2003 Australian Entrepreneur of the Year is divided into five regions with six categories: Retail, Service, Technology, Master Entrepreneur, Young Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship in a Social community.

At the National Awards ceremony to be held in Melbourne this month, one of the regional Entrepreneurs of the Year will take out the Australian Entrepreneur of the Year award and continue on to the international finals to be held in 2004, to decide the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year.

Recipients of the award are selected by independent judging panels with members from among business, community, academia and past winners of the award. Judging is based on five parameters: entrepreneurial spirit, innovation, personal integrity/influence, financial performance, strategic direction and national/global impact. Turner gave credit to his team at DAI for helping him to reach the Australian finals as the Southern region Young Entrepreneur.
