For the first time the Dutch German company Drent Goebel has demonstrated a VSOP with a web width of 1120mm. The machine was constructed specially for printing thick cardboard, and is the second machine of this type sold to the world’s biggest manufacturer of liquid packaging. During the two days of demonstrations on January 27th and 28th, Drent Goebel showed multiple job changes which also featured a change in repeat length. All job changes were performed under 20 minutes and even the larger sleeves were handled without any extra tools like cranes or trolleys. This was, for the visitors, one of the striking features of the VSOP press, says Drent Goebel .

The two jobs were printed on 350gsm cardboard provided by Mayr Melnhof’s plant in Holland and Cascade from France. Drent Goebel says both types of cardboard were handled perfectly by the VSOP press. “Because of the fact that most of the cardboard converters work with different types of cardboard it is very important that our machine can work with all of them”, explains Rob Meij, product manager at Drent Goebel.

As a bonus was tall visitors also had the possibility of having a closer look at a different VSOP 1120 press that is still in its construction phase. This machine will be used for a completely different substrate, namely foil for shrink sleeve packaging. This of course enhanced the image of an all-round printing press.
