The Single Width Users’ Group has announced that its 13th annual conference will take place from July 17-18 at the Novotel conference and hotel complex adjoining Ellerslie Racecourse, in Auckland.
With expectations of 140 delegates and suppliers attending the conference, Swug predicts a busy two days of in-depth presentations on relevant print topics. Dan Blackbourn, chairman of Swug, says the 2013 event will build on the great successes of the last three conferences in Christchurch, Wellington and Taupo. He says, “Christchurch set records for attendance and sponsor support. We also expanded by embracing the heatset sector of the industry for the first time. It set a benchmark for commitment to the industry from delegates and sponsors alike.
“We are looking to add to that success this year, aiming to give Swug new impetus as an industry grouping for the future. We now need gold, silver and bronze sponsors to come forward so we can begin to structure the conference programme.”
The conference dinner will feature the Swug Apprentice of the Year Award and presentations will for the Swug Quality Awards. As has become a tradition, the conference programme will also include social activities that have proved popular with delegates.
Organisers have scheduled a further highlight: the site visit to the new PMP headquarters in Enterprise Park, Manukau. PMP relocated to the purpose-built 22,000 square metre super-site late in 2011, allowing it to integrate its various divisions. This marks the first time PMP’s head office, printing plant and warehousing have come together been in one location, which the company says results in a far more cohesive business. It also creates one point of access to print, database marketing, distribution, subscriptions and news stand distribution.
Over the coming months, the Swug committee will announce the theme of the conference and the line-up of speakers. Recent conferences, jam-packed with award-winning speakers addressing a number of topics, have delivered invaluable insights for delegates and the committee promises the same this time.
Blackbourn adds, “The intention is for the conference to meet everyone's need in our sector of the printing industry. Delegates will have an opportunity to hear from manufacturers and suppliers, plus networking opportunities to mix with fellow printers and others involved in the print industry and learn from their experiences and knowledge. More than that, it offers a forum to debate industry issues, problems and opportunities.”
