DuPont Awards search for innovation

The DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation are now open for entries, with new categories to reflect shifts in the industry – technological advancement, responsible packaging and enhanced user experience.

Brand owners, retailers, packaging designers, converters and technology providers are invited to enter new packaging that has been commercialised since January 1 in 2012 – with entries closing on March 1 this year. DuPont materials – which include a range of adhesive, barrier, peelable lidding and sealant resins – do not need to be in the packaging structure.

Yasmin Siddiqi, marketing director with DuPont, says the awards categories have been upgraded to reflect future global challenges. She says, “As we enter the next quarter century of celebrating packaging, we believe we need to evolve with the industry. The DuPont Packaging Awards honour packaging innovations that use science, inspiration, and creativity to shift the paradigms and change the way we live.”

David Luttenberger, this year’s lead juror, adds, “The global packaging industry is experiencing a transition from disruptive packaging innovation to solutions-based innovation. The 2014 edition of the DuPont Packaging Awards will honour unique and beneficial packaging technologies, while at the same time embrace the future-forward ideas and innovations that are solving real needs for retailers, brand owners and especially consumers.”

In 2013 UK-based design firm pi global took out the top honours for AidPod, a medicine kit that tucks between bottles in Coca-Cola crates for delivery to remote sub-Saharan villages – and itself becomes a dose mixing and drinking vessel. Last year’s gold winners include a closed-loop program for inkjet cartridges that recovers and reuses ink, easy-open razor packaging, a sustainable convenience salad bowl and cleaning spray bottles that use the last drop.This year’s winners will be announced at a ceremony in May.
