Epson has launched a new digital label press with new imaging technology to its SurePress range, with the international release of the SurePress L-6034VW at Labelexpo Europe in Brussels.
The L-6034VW is the manufacturer’s first single-pass industrial press, featuring new PrecisionCore linehead technology and LED-cured UV ink with in-line digital varnish capability.
Epson says the new system will suit label converters investing in a digital label press for the first time, or those wishing to expand their production facilities. The system is designed to print short to mid-run labels on standard film and paper label substrates between 80 and 340mm wide.
The press is available in two models. The L-6034VW CMYK model, with digital varnish and high-opacity white ink, is said to be of higher productivity than the previous L-4033AW aqueous inkjet press and suitable for short to medium volumes. A second L-6034V model is available without white ink.
Speaking at LabelExpo in Brussels, Duncan Ferguson, director of ProGraphics with Epson, says, “The launch of the SurePress L-6034VW puts us in the position of offering two different presses with two different inksets.
“Label converters can choose the best solutions to suit their client portfolios that enables them to compete effectively for profitable high-value business, while managing costs.”
Epson says each of the six lineheads in the presses is made up of 11 printhead modules, 52,800 in total, to deliver 600 x 600 dpi quality at 15m per minute. The system features technology that senses if a nozzle is not firing, to automatically clean and recover it.
The curing process uses LED lamps, allowing the SurePress to print onto heat-sensitive substrates like polyethylene.
Previously shown as a prototype at drupa 2012, both models will ship in the middle of 2014 for the Australia and New Zealand market, after their release in the US and Asia earlier in the year.
