Goss to open packaging test hub

Press manufacturer Goss International will open a packaging technology centre at its US headquarters in Durham, New Hampshire, in January next year to promote technology development.

Brand owners and packaging producers will be invited to test, demonstrate and implement cooperative programs at the centre, to enhance their businesses through web offset technology.

The Goss Sunday Vpak 500 press system, configured for printing on film and paper substrates, will take centre stage in the 650sqm site. The press will feature seven web offset printing units with a web width of 850mm and repeat range of 406-812mm. It will be equipped with a flexo unit and UV and EB curing capabilities and accommodate film substrates
from nine to 75 microns thick and paper products as heavy as 100 gsm.

Peter Walczak, director of product management for Goss packaging presses, says, “With the first Sunday Vpak system now producing excellent results and another confidential project underway, we look forward to expanding our ability to demonstrate this new-generation web offset option to packaging producers throughout the world through customised print tests.”

He adds that the centre will host seminars and programs to explore emerging demands in the market and share ideas, with the ability to test inks, chemicals and auxiliary technologies in a controlled environment.

Supply partners for the centre include ESI, Flint, Martin Automatic, Nela, Prime UV, QuadTech, Technotrans and Vataphone, with additional suppliers still to be confirmed.
