IPI kicks off international packaging seminars

The International Packaging Institute (IPI) is running four seminars in the first quarter of 2014 in Schaffhausen, Germany, for packagers interested in biopolymers, materials, barrier films for food packaging and the ins and outs of intellectual property rights.

IPI_okThe series gets up and running with a session on biopolymers and their capabilities and limitations in food packaging, to be held on February 26. It is designed for people working in materials development, packaging design and packaging companies, as well as equipment manufacturers.

Barrier films for food packaging is the hot topic for February 27, which will explore how to correctly dimension the barrier characteristics needed for different perishable foods – some may need selective permeability rather than total barrier protection. It is suitable for packaging developers, research and development staff working for packaging film manufacturers and food producers, packers and distributers.

A packaging materials seminar takes place on March 5 – 7 and 26 – 28, and is suitable for new employees looking to broaden their knowledge, and for those with practical experience who wish to upgrade their technical knowledge. It is recommended for technical staff and engineers in production, research and development, procurement, product management and sales.

A fourth seminar on March 13 tackles intellectual property and patents – including how they can be defended, used to analysed the market and help save you time and money you would otherwise devote to developing your own solution

IPI visit_okThe institute also runs a Master of Engineering in Packaging Technology programme, a two-year part time course run in Schaffhausen that has attracted participants from China, Columbia, Switzerland, Denmark and Bulgaria. The next cohort kicks off on February 24, 2014.
